The Globe By the Way Book

(UK, Globe, 1908)

PREFACE

This is the age of Hurry, Bustle, and Melancholy.

You can do the Hurry and Bustle part.

This book will try to supply a little of the Melancholy.

GET ON OR GET OUT.

FIVE MINUTES is nowadays equal to a week, an hour to three months, and a day to three years. On these lines you get a week’s reading for 1/-.

What you want is a book that will tell you what is going on and what is going to go on, and tell it you in FIVE MINUTES.

You want something you can read in a hurry (get on, you lobsters!) while you are stumbling to catch your tram, while you are being run over by the motor-’bus, while you are leaping madly between the closing doors of the moving Underground train.

You want your news on the tabloid system. You don’t want to spend half-an-hour, which might have been spent in doing in your fellow business man (hustle, you flat fish!), wading through long screeds on the events of the day. You want them in a single line.

DO pass along there, please!!!
