Greyfriars Holiday Annual, UK

Frank Richards (one of the pen names of Charles Hamilton, 1876–1961, a prolific author of short stories) is best known for a long-running series set at the fictional Greyfriars School, originally published in The Magnet, a magazine launched in 1908 by the Amalgamated Press. The series, most featuring the student Billy Bunter, continued in the magazine through 1940 and in book form until the author’s death.

The Amalgamated Press issued the Holiday Annual beginning in 1920, continuing through 1941. Details about the author, the magazines and annuals, and many scans of early contents are at the Friardale website.

Four Wodehouse school stories were reprinted in the 1924–27 annuals.
